Emergency Grant Aid for Flood Disaster in Thailand

- On November 4 (Thu), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid up to 200,000 USD to the Thai Red Cross in response flood disasters.
- Floods continued in the Kingdom of Thailand, centering on the northeastern and central regions, due to heavy rain in mid-October. Floods occurred in the southern region since the end of October. These floods led to the death of at least 104 people and affected more than 5 million people (as of November 2, announced by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, Thailand). The floods also inundated many houses and a wide area of farmland, inflicting serious effects on the local people’s daily livelihood.
- In response to a request from the Thai Red Cross Society on November 3, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid for the disaster victims in view of humanitarian aspects as well as the friendly relationship and cooperation between Japan and Thailand.
