Statement by the Press Secretary/ Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the Suicide Bomb Attack in Somalia

- Japan strongly condemns the suicide attack on African Union Mission
in Somalia (AMISOM) Headquarters in Mogadishu, Somalia, on September 17,
2009, which caused heavy casualties. Japan expresses its deepest condolences
for those who have been killed and the families of the victims. Japan also
extends its heartfelt sympathy toward the injured.
- It is extremely regrettable that the terrorist attack occurred whilst
peace efforts continue to make progress in Somalia, within the framework
of Transitional Federal Government, which is supported by the international
community.
- Japan will continue to offer its cooperation and provide aid in order to stabilize the situation in Somalia in collaboration with the international community.
