On September 4, H.E. Mr. Hirofumi Nakasone, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, sent a message of sympathy to H.E. Dr. N. Hassan Wirajuda, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, on the disaster caused by the earthquake which occurred off the southern coast of West Java, the Republic of Indonesia, in the afternoon of September 2 (Wed). The contents of the message are as follows.
I was deeply saddened to hear that Indonesia lost a large number of lives as a result of the earthquake which occurred on September 2 off the coast of West Java. I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I also express my hope for the swift recovery of those who suffered from damages as well as a speedy reconstruction process. The Government of Japan is willing to provide the maximum possible aid to the victims of the earthquake.
