Dispatch of Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan to Sri Lanka

- In response to the recent movements on the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka,
the Government of Japan has decided to dispatch Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative
of the Government of Japan for Peace-Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction
in Sri Lanka, to Sri Lanka from January 21st to 25th.
- During his stay, Mr. Akashi will meet with President Rajapaksa and other
government officials, representatives of the ruling and opposite political
parties and encourage their work on the process towards a political solution
of the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. Mr. Akashi will also exchange
views on the situation of internally displaced people in the North and visit
the eastern part of Sri Lanka to observe the situation on the ground.
- For Mr. Akashi, this will be 16th visit to Sri Lanka.
