G8 Health Experts’ Meeting

G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit

  1. The G8 Health Experts’ Meeting was held in Tokyo (at Ministry of Foreign Affairs) on 11-12 June.
     
  2. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jun Yamazaki, Deputy Director-General for Global Issues of MOFA, with the participation of health experts from the G8 members. .
     
  3. During the meeting, the participants had an intensive discussion on health-related topics in preparation for the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit.

      This meeting was organized as a forum for the G8 members to discuss specific issues in order to formulate an “international framework for action” at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit.  It is a follow-up to the special address by Prime Minister Fukuda at the Would Economic Forum in Davos in January, as well as the address by Minister for Foreign Affairs Koumura on “Global Health and Japan’s Foreign Policy - From Okinawa to Toyako” in November 2007.  The first meeting was held on 14-15 February 2008, and the second meeting was held on 9-10 April 2008.
