The 10th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) and the 5th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties Serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol (COP-MOP5) to be Held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture

- The 9th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on
Biological Diversity (COP9) was held from May 19 (Mon) to 30 (Fri) in Bonn,
Germany. COP decided on May 30 by consensus that the next COP10 would
be held from October 18 (Mon) to 29 (Fri), 2010, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
It also decided that the next COP-MOP5 would be held from October
11 (Mon) to 15 (Fri) in 2010 at the same venue.
- The year 2010 will be the year by which the 2010 Biodiversity Target (the rate of biodiversity loss should be significantly reduced) should be achieved. The year was also declared as the International Year of Biodiversity. The Government of Japan, together with Nagoya City and Aichi Prefecture, will prepare for the success of the Conference.
