Earthquake Disaster in Sichuan Province (Humanitarian Assistance to the Government of the People's Republic of China through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)

- The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency grant aid amounting
to a total of 1.7 million dollars (about 192 million yen) as humanitarian
assistance for the earthquake disaster in Sichuan Province through the International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
- This assistance is part of the emergency assistance equivalent to 500
million yen which was announced by the Government of Japan on May 13 in
response to a request from the IFRC.
- The fund provided by the Government of Japan will be allocated to purchase food, blankets, cooking utensils, and other items for the rescue and relief efforts.
