Emergency Grant Aid to Tackle the Cholera Outbreak in the Republic of Zimbabwe
December 26, 2008
- On December 26 (Fri), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency
grant aid of 1.5 million US dollars (about 169.5 million yen) to the Republic
of Zimbabwe, through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as humanitarian
assistance for the fight against the large-scale cholera outbreak that is
raging in Zimbabwe. The grant aid will be used to procure chemicals
for purifying water and to carry out health education.
- The Government of Japan, which has been concerned about the unstable political and economic situation in Zimbabwe and discussed it at this year’s G8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting as well as the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, strongly expects the Government of Zimbabwe to stabilize immediately the country’s situation, to promote democratization, and to improve the humanitarian situation.
