G8 Health Experts’ Meeting

- As a follow-up to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, the Fourth G8 Health
Experts’ Meeting was held in Tokyo on 4 November.
- The meeting was chaired by Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, Deputy Director-General
for Global Issues, with the participation of health experts from the G8
countries.
- During the meeting, the participants had an intensive discussion on global health as a follow-up to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit.
(Reference) At the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit, the Government of Japan focused on the issues of global health in the discussion of Development and Africa. In addition, the ‘Toyako Framework for Action on Global Health – Report of the G8 Health Experts Group-‘ (http://www.mofa.go.jp/policy/economy/summit/2008/index.html) was presented at the Summit and welcomed by the G8 leaders. The G8 Health Experts’ Meetings have been conducted three times in February, April and June 2008.
