First Liaison Meeting for the Hokkaido Toyako Summit 2008

  1. On July 10 (Tue) from 4:10 p.m, the First Liaison Meeting for the Hokkaido Toyako Summit 2008 chaired by Mr. Taro Aso, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. Mr. Aso stated that the G8 Summit would be Japan’s most important diplomatic event next year, and hence needed to be a success. He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a whole, must make its utmost efforts for its preparations in cooperation with the related ministries and other stakeholders.
  3. Following Mr. Aso’s remarks, Mr. Hiroshi Fukada, the Secretary General for the G8 Summit, reported on the progress of the preparations as well as other logistical considerations for the Hokkaido Toyako Summit and the G8 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
  4. The establishment of this Liaison Meeting was announced by Mr. Aso on June 12 (Thu) when the Cabinet approved the holding of the Hokkaido Toyako Summit.
