Dr. Tatsuo Arima, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for the Middle East, to Meet with the Leaders of the Countries concerned with the Middle East Peace Attending the Arab League Summit

1. Dr. Tatsuo Arima, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan
for the Middle East, is now visiting Saudi Arabia to attend the 19th Arab League
Summit in Riyadh on March 28 (Wed) and 29 (Thu), and, on March 27, prior to
the Summit, he had meetings with Mr. Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority,
Mr. Abu-Amr, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Siniora,
Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Mualem, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria,
and Mr. Al-Khatib, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, respectively.
2. At each meeting, Dr. Arima briefed on Japan’s recent endeavor toward promoting the Middle East peace process and discussed with each leader the prospect of the situation in the Middle East and policies to be taken by the international community.
