Contribution to the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF)

- On February 6 (Tue), Japan decided to make a contribution to the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) in the amount of 10 million U.S. dollars.
- The fund was established by the United Nations Secretary-General in July 2005, for the purposes of providing assistance for strengthening democratic institutions and facilitating democratic governance in new or restored democracies.
- Japan attaches great importance to diplomacy based on universal values such as democracy and human rights, and hopes to contribute through this Fund to the international society's efforts to consolidate democracy.
