Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Suicide Bombing in Baglan (North Afghanistan)

  1. Japan feels greatly shocked and indignant over the suicide bomb attack in Baglan, northern part of Afghanistan, which caused many deaths and injuries on November 6.
    Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan reiterates its firm condemnation of these atrocious acts of terrorism that victimize many innocent people.
     
  2. Japan expresses sympathy for those who were killed by terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, and condolences to the families of the victims.  It also expresses its heartfelt sympathy toward the injured and prays for their early recovery.
     
  3. Japan will continue its support for the reconstruction of Afghanistan, serving for the elimination of poverty which could lead to fostering terrorism.  At the same time, Japan intends to make utmost efforts for the expeditious approval of Replenishment Support Special Measures Law to resume refueling activities in the Indian Ocean by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force so as to fulfill its responsibility in the international community towards the eradication of terrorism.
