Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Proclamation of Emergency in Pakistan

- In Pakistan, Emergency throughout the country was proclaimed on 3rd
November and the Constitution of the country went into abeyance. The Government
of Japan expresses its deep concern over these measures as a setback of
process toward the consolidation of democracy in Pakistan.
- Japan has consistently supported Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and its efforts for consolidation of democracy. From this viewpoint, Japan strongly expects that the situation in Pakistan will be normalized promptly and it will return to the process toward the consolidation of democracy.
