Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism

1. Japan welcomes the announcement of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism in Saint Petersburg made today jointly by President Bush of the United States of America and President Putin of the Russian Federation.
2. Japan highly regards this Initiative as significant, as it does demonstrate the united stance of the international community in its efforts to further strengthen measures to combat nuclear terrorism.
3. Japan will participate positively in discussions on this initiative, with a view to identifying potential areas of cooperation.
