Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP): Mr. Yoshiaki Ito to Take Office as Executive Director of Information Sharing Center (ISC)

- In the first meeting of the ReCAAP Governing Council on November 28 (Tue), Mr. Yoshiaki Ito of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations (UN) was selected first executive director of the ISC that will be established on November 29 (Wed). Under Mr. Ito's direction, the information sharing system and the cooperative framework will be improved through the ISC, which will promote actions against piracy.
- In addition to Mr. Ito, Japan dispatches Mr. Takanori Matsumoto, an ex-Japan Coast Guard official, Second Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Singapore, as a personnel contribution to the ISC as assistant executive director (in charge of programmes).
- As financial support, Japan will also provide 12.96 million yen (196,000 Singapore dollars) to the ISC for the running costs and the cost of dispatching the Japanese officials.
- Japan will continue such personnel and financial contributions to the ISC, and proactively tackle anti-piracy actions through the ReCAAP.
