Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Panama for Torrential Rain Disaster

- On November 27 (Mon), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency assistance in kind (electric generators, water purifiers, tents and mattresses) worth about 10 million yen to the Government of the Republic of Panama, which has sustained torrential rain disaster.
- In the Republic of Panama, major flooding was caused in the provinces of Coclé and Colón, and in the western part of Panama province by four successive days of torrential rain. The flooding caused landslides, blocked roads and washed away bridges, leaving 11 dead, 4,248 victims and 1,056 damaged dwellings as of November 26 (Sun) local time.
The flood victims are now living in harsh conditions, and the Government of Panama has requested emergency assistance from Japan, while engaging in self-help restoration efforts. - The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance for the disaster victims from a humanitarian viewpoint and taking account of the friendly relations between Japan and Panama.
