Emergency Aid for Flood Disaster in Bulgaria

- The Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance in kind worth about 10 million yen (plastic containers, portable water tanks and water purifiers) to the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria, which has sustained a large-scale flood disaster.
- In Bulgaria, according to a news report, major flooding caused by continued rain has affected some 45,000 people including 17 fatalities and submerged over 3,500 houses, damaging infrastructure including farmland, roads and railroads.
At this moment, the victims are forced to live in harsh conditions in wide-spread areas of Bulgaria, and the Government of Bulgaria is making restoration efforts while requesting emergency aid from the international community. - The Government of Japan has decided to provide this emergency aid for the victims of the disaster from a humanitarian point of view and taking account of the friendly relations between Japan and Bulgaria.
