Signing and Deposit of Instrument of Notification of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia

  1. Mr. Ichiro Aisawa, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, duly authorized by the Government of Japan, signed the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia on April 28 (Thu) in Singapore, and deposited the Instrument of Notification indicating the completion of its domestic requirements for the conclusion of the Agreement with the Government of Singapore, the depositary of this Agreement.
  2. On the same day, Singapore and Laos, along with Japan, signed and deposited the Instrument of Notification, while Cambodia only signed the Agreement.
  3. Japan strongly hopes that the States participating in the elaboration of the Agreement will conclude the Agreement as soon as possible with a view to strengthening anti-piracy cooperation among those States through achieving the early entry into force and implementation of the Agreement.
