February 23, 2005

  1. A large-scale earthquake that took place in the southeastern part of the Islamic Republic of Iran has brought disaster. The Government of Iran is making rehabilitation efforts of its own, but because of rain and cold, people in the quake-hit areas whose houses have been destroyed are living in harsh circumstances. On February 22, the Government of Iran requested emergency relief aid from Japan.

  2. The Government of Japan has decided to extend emergency assistance in kind equivalent to about 20 million yen including blankets and tents, from a humanitarian point of view, taking into account the seriousness of the disaster and the friendly relations between Japan and Iran.
