Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Car Bombing Occurred in Lebanon

  1. The Government of Japan condemns the car bombing in the suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, in the morning of December 12 which killed Mr. Gebran Tueni, member of the Lebanese Parliament and one of the most prominent figures in the Lebanese journalism. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved families and heartfelt sympathies to the injured. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason. Japan renews its firm condemnation against such terrorism.
  2. Japan has been carefully watching the situation in Lebanon from the standpoint that the political stability in Lebanon is essential for the peace and stability in the region, and will keep closely following the matter.
