Reelection of Mr. Koichiro Matsuura as Director-General of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)

- On October 12 (Wed.), the 33rd session of the General Conference of UNESCO being held in Paris, France, decided to reelect Mr. Koichiro Matsuura as its Director-General, as his term of office is due to expire in November.
- Japan highly appreciates UNESCO's efforts including structural and program reform, and decentralization of power which has been made under the leadership of its Director-General Matsuura; welcomes his reelection; and expects the Director-General to continue contributing to the international community.
