Image Diagnostic Technology Training for Doctors in the Governorate of Al-Muthanna, Iraq
October 4, 2005
- From October 4 (Tue) to 28 (Fri), the Government of Japan will provide Image Diagnostic Technology Training (Ultrasonography and Radiology) in Japan for nine doctors working for medical institutions in Samawah and its suburbs in the Governorate of Al-Muthanna in the southern part of Iraq.
- Under the program, the doctors will strive to deepen their basic understanding of the medical imaging system and equipment and acquire knowledge and techniques to use the images for diagnosis. Another aim is to have the doctors deepen their understanding of how image diagnostic technology is being used, in the process of learning about the regular medical checkup system and the regional emergency medical system in Japan.
- Japan has provided grant aid and technical cooperation such as training programs in Japan on nursing and anti-infectious disease measures, with a view to improving the basic medical standards in the Governorate of Al-Muthanna. As part of such assistance, Japan provided 866 million yen to the Health Department of the Governorate of Al-Muthanna as funding necessary for 32 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in the governorate to purchase medical equipment. It is expected that the training program will enable doctors to make more effective use of the medical equipment purchased by giving them a good understanding of medical imaging apparatus and its extended uses, thereby helping to improve the medical services in the region.
- This training will be implemented as part of the training programs of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).
