Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid to Iraq (Governorate of Al-Muthanna including Samawah)
January 8, 2005
Two water treatment facilities out of the six provided to the Water Department of the Governorate of Al-Muthanna by utilizing the fund extended by the Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid to Iraq (Governorate of Al-Muthanna including Samawah) have been installed in Hillal (about 25 km west of Samawah) and Majd (about 10 km west of Samawah).
The presentation ceremony for the facilities was held at 16:00 on January 8 (Sat) (local time: 10:00 on the same day) at the installation site in Hillal, attended on the Iraqi side by the Chairmen of both the Hillal and Majd Councils and the Director of the Water Department of the Governorate of Al-Muthanna, and on the Japanese side by the officials and staff members concerned of the Liaison Office in Samawah of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japanese Self Defense Forces in Samawah.
The supply of safe water with this assistance will contribute to the improvement of the water supply in the Governorate of Al-Muthanna, and is expected to stabilize the people's standard of living in the districts covered.
- In Hillal and Majd, where the transportation system is under-developed, the procurement of safe water is particularly difficult. At the ceremony, local people were pleased to observe the water purified by the facilities carried out by water tank trucks.
