Emergency Assistance for the Disaster in Thailand Caused by the Major Earthquake off the Coast of Sumatra and Tsunami in the Indian Ocean

  1. The Government of Japan, in light of the massive damage in the coastal area along the Andaman Sea in the Kingdom of Thailand, caused by a tsunami in the Indian Ocean, has decided to dispatch a Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team of three, two experts on DNA specimen extraction and one expert on DNA examination, to the Government of Thailand. The team leaves Japan on January 4.

  2. The team will be dispatched because experts on DNA specimen extraction from corpses and DNA examination are being urgently needed to confirm the identity of dead victims of the disaster in Thailand.
