Statement by Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the Announcement of the Members of the Iraqi Interim Government

Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, issued today the following statement regarding the announcement of the Iraqi Interim Government.

  1. On June 1 (Tue), Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi, Special Advisor to the U.N. Secretary General, announced the members of the Iraqi Interim Government. Japan supports the efforts that have been made by the Iraqis concerned and by Mr. Brahimi, and highly values their achievements.

  2. Japan hopes that the political process in Iraq will make steady progress under the Interim Government just announced. Japan will proactively assist the Iraqi people's efforts for their nation re-building, since it is vital for the entire international community, including the United Nations, to assist the reconstruction of Iraq.
