Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on conclusion of the contract for the development operations of Azadegan field

  1. We welcome the signing of the contract on the exploitation of the Azadegan Oilfield which took place early morning of Thursday 19 February (Japan Time) between INPEX and NIOC/NICO.

  2. We hope that the signing of this contract will further promote cordial Japan-Iran relations.

  3. The Government of Japan firmly maintains its positions regarding Iran's nuclear issues. We welcome Iran's recent moves toward cooperating with the IAEA and strongly hope that Iran will fully comply with the series of IAEA resolutions and NPT obligations, thereby avoiding situations that will hinder development of Japan-Iran relations.
