Assistance for Natural Disaster Risk Management in India

- On July 24 (Thu), the Government of Japan and the United Nations (UN) decided to extend assistance of a total of 1,030,000 US dollars through the Trust Fund for Human Security to the project "Total Risk Management Programme" to be implemented in India by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- The objective of this project is to strengthen preparedness in communities in five districts in Gujarat, Bihar and Orissa in India, where cyclone, flood, earthquake and drought cause great damage, in order to reduce their vulnerability to natural disaster. Activities include awareness raising on natural disaster reduction and recovery and capacity building at district and community level to plan and implement disaster management.
- This project is expected to improve the lives of people in the areas often affected by natural disasters through improved disaster management.
