Emergency Aid for Flood Disaster in Nepal

- On July 29 (Mon), the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency assistance in kind (30 tents and 2,280 blankets) equivalent to approximately 10 million yen to the Government of the Kingdom of Nepal, which has sustained damage from flooding.
- In Nepal, the torrential rains which occurred twice, on July 13 and from 21 to 22, caused landslides and floods over wide areas of the western, central and eastern parts of the country, resulting in great human and material damage: more than 280 dead or missing, more than 100 injured, about 50,000 afflicted in total, more than 6,450 houses collapsed, and damage to agricultural land, livestock, roads and other material property.
- At present the afflicted people whose houses have been destroyed by floods are forced to live in difficult circumstances as evacuees. The Government of Nepal, while conducting relief operations of its own, needs further assistance from the international community and has therefore requested emergency assistance from the Government of Japan.
- The Government of Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance to those afflicted by this disaster from the viewpoint of humanitarian aid and in light of the friendly relations between Japan and Nepal.
