Emergency Assistance to Iran for Earthquake Disaster

The Government of Japan expresses its condolences to the victims of a large-scale earthquake in the North-western part of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi, on behalf of the Government of Japan sent a message of sympathy to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi in the late afternoon of 22 June (JST). The Japanese Government had immediately dispatched the staff of the Embassy of Japan in Iran to the disaster stricken area in order to inspect the damage of the earthquake and the progress of rescue activities.

The Government of Japan is making the arrangement of the emergency assistance of approximately ¥50,000,000 (about US$ 400,000) consisting of grant assistance and relief materials.
