Assistance to North Korea for the Nomination to the World Heritage List

  1. On 30 November 2000, the Government of Japan decided to cooperate with UNESCO in extending a minibus to North Korea to support their efforts in the nomination of its cultural heritage sites for the inscription on the World Heritage List.

  2. The Republic of Korea is jointly cooperating in UNESCO's assistance to North Korea, and will extend one land cruiser vehicle.

  3. North Korea ratified the World Heritage Convention in July 1998 and has been preparing the nomination files for the inscription on the World Heritage List of its cultural and natural heritage sites such as the tombs of the Koguryo. The vehicles will be used to facilitate the preparation of technical documents to be submitted to the World Heritage Committee.
