- At a meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee to Assist the Palestinian People (AHLC) held on February 4 in Frankfurt, Japan offered to host the next meeting in Japan, and it was agreed to hold the meeting in Tokyo no later than September this year. It will be co-chaired by Mr. Vollebaek, Foreign Minister of Norway, permanent chair of AHLC, and Mr. Masahiko Koumura, Japanese Foreign Minister. High-level participants are expected at the next meeting, including Dr. Nabeel Sha'ath, Minister for Planning and International Cooperation of the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Vollebaek of Norway, and others.
- AHLC, which meets twice a year, was established in October 1993 at the Washington Conference to support Middle East peace in order to coordinate and promote assistance efforts of individual donors for the Palestinian people.
- The next meeting in Tokyo, which will take place after such major political moves as the termination of the Palestinian Interim Self-Government period on May 4 and the general elections in Israel, will be extremely important for the Middle East peace process.
