Inscription on the World Heritage List of "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara"

  1. At the 22nd Session of the World Heritage Committee held at the Kyoto International Conference Hall in Kyoto, Japan, from Monday, 30 November to Saturday, 5 December 1998, Japan's recommendation of "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara" to the World Heritage List was examined, and the recommended sites were added to the World Heritage List on December 2. Consequently, the total number of Japan's properties on the World Heritage List has reached nine, with seven cultural and two natural properties.

  2. A total of 30 properties have been inscribed on the World Heritage List at this conference, of which 27 are cultural heritage, and 3 natural heritage. The total number of properties now inscribed on the World Heritage List has reached 582, of which 445 are cultural heritage, 117 natural heritage and 20 mixed heritage.
