Meeting between Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA and H.E. Mr. Massano, Minister of State for the Economic Coordination of the Republic of Angola

On February 21, commencing at 11:50 a.m. local time (11:50 p.m. JST) for approximately 35 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. José De Lima Massano, Minister of State for the Economic Coordination of the Republic of Angola. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister KAMIKAWA expressed her gratitude for the Angolan government’s warm message of sympathy on the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The Minister also congratulated Angola for assuming the position of First Vice-President of the African Union (AU) and expressed her wish to work more closely with Angola to resolve global issues. The two ministers confirmed that they would cooperate not only bilaterally but also in the international arena.
- Minister KAMIKAWA expressed her intention to extend a loan in Japanese yen to the "Project for Transmission System Reinforcement in Southern Angola" to improve the electricity situation in southern Angola. In response, Minister Massano expressed his appreciation for the Japanese government's support for Angola's economic development and his hope that the "Project for Transmission System Reinforcement in Southern Angola" would contribute significantly to improving the power supply situation in southern Angola. The Ministers also concurred in promoting the strengthening of business relations considering that the Japan-Angola Investment Agreement was signed last year, and in strengthening cooperation toward TICAD Ministerial Meeting this year and TICAD 9 next year.
- Minister KAMIKAWA referred to the results of the Japan-Ukraine Conference for Promotion of Economic Growth and Reconstruction and Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Session on the occasion of the Conference held on January 19, and the two ministers concurred in working together in the field of WPS.
