Visit of Mr. YAMAGIWA Daishiro to the Republic of Angola, as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister

From 2 to 6 July, Mr. YAMAGIWA Daishiro, Member of the House of Representatives, visited the Republic of Angola, as Special Envoy of the Prime Minister. The overview of the visit is as follows.

- On July 4, Special Envoy YAMAGIWA paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. João Manuel Gonçalves LOURENÇO, President of the Republic of Angola, and handed a letter from Prime Minister ISHIBA. Mr. YAMAGIWA conveyed the Prime Minister’s thought on desire to cooperate with President LOURENÇO as co-chairs, toward the success of TICAD 9 in August this year.
President LOURENÇO expressed his gratitude for the dispatch of Special Envoy of Prime Minister and expressed his willingness to cooperate together as a co-chair to make TICAD 9 a success. Besides, President LOURENÇO expressed his desire to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, which has deepened in recent years.

- Furthermore, on July 3, Special Envoy YAMAGIWA paid a courtesy call on Mr. Pedro de Morais Neto, Chairperson of Japan-Angola Parliamentary Friendship Association of the Republic of Angola. On this occasion, he expressed the expectation on the success of TICAD 9 and promoting exchange between members of parliaments for the 50 years anniversary of the diplomatic relation between Japan and Angola. Mr. Neto expressed his expectation on further strengthen the exchange between members of parliaments of Japan and Angola.


- During his visit, Special Envoy YAMAGIWA attended the ceremony for provision of the elementary school in Luanda as a Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project, and a meeting with stakeholders including teachers and students, and delivered his speech as representative of Japanese Government. He visited National Demining Center harnessing demining equipment provided by Japan, and the stakeholders expressed their gratitude for Japan’s contribution to the achievement of “Mine Free” in Angola. He also met JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) officials and volunteers, UN officials as well as Japanese businessmen residing in Angola.
