On April 28, commencing at 11:00 a.m. local time (April 28, 17:00 a.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Republic of Madagascar, visited the Antananarivo Municipal Library of Analakely.

Japan and France collaborate to assist refurbishment of the library in a way that Japan supports its renovation through Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects and France provides computers and other equipment.

Escorted by the director of the library, Minister Kamikawa stated that she would like to utilize the library as an entry point for promoting mutual understanding and further promote cultural exchanges between the two countries, through such means as setting up a section in the library dealing with activities and exchanges between the two countries. She also stated that she would like to expand these efforts to many countries by utilizing the library as a model case. In response, the director expressed her appreciation for Japan's cooperation and stated that she would like to continue to cooperate with the embassy of Japan in Madagascar and support Japan's ideas.
