Japan-Ghana Relations

On May 18, Mrs. Akie Abe, spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, spouse of the President of the Republic of Ghana, who was paying an Official Working Visit to Japan.

Mrs. Abe expressed her pleasure to meet Mrs. Mahama for the first time since the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) and Mrs. Mahama responded that she had been looking forward to the reunion as well. Mrs. Mahama also offered words of condolence on the earthquakes centered in Kumamoto.

Mrs. Mahama introduced activities of "Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA)", of which she currently serves as President, as well as her work to prevent child marriage. In response, Mrs. Abe expressed her sincere respect for Mrs. Mahama's activities. They exchanged their views on issues of their common interest such as efforts for socially underprivileged population.
