On February 10, commencing at 11:30 a.m. local time (7:30 a.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting the Independent State of Samoa, paid a courtesy call on His Highness TUIMALEALI’IFANO Va'aletoa Sualauvi II, Head of State, Independent State of Samoa.The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude for warm welcome by Samoa and the opportunity to pay a courtesy call and stated that Japan and Samoa are important friends connected with the Pacific Ocean and that she was pleased to be able to make a visit Samoa. In response, Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali'ifano mentioned the close relationship between both the countries and greatly welcomed her visit.

Minister Kamikawa addressed Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’fano, who has many years of experience in the field of law on diplomacy to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law and to realize a safe and secure world where human dignity is protected. Both sides concurred on the importance of the rule of law and Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’fano expressed his expectation for the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Summit (PALM 10) and the PALM Ministerial Interim Meeting.

Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude for the sympathy of Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’fano for the Noto Peninsula earthquake, and presented a box foiled with Kanazawa gold leaf in hope for the recovery of the affected areas. Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’fano extended his condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and those who are affected, wished for the swift recovery.
