Japan-Samoa Relations

State Minister Abe Received a Courtesy Call from Sili, Minister of Finance of the Independent State of Samoa

On 23rd July, commencing at 11:00am for approximately 30 minutes, Honourable Sili, Minister of Finance of the Independent State of Samoa, who is visiting Japan at the invitation of the Association for Promotion of International Cooperation (APIC), paid a courtesy call on Dr. Toshiko Abe, State Minister for Foreign Affairs.

  1. State Minister Abe welcomed his visit to Japan, and conveyed Japan’s policy to strengthen its relations with Pacific Island countries including Samoa-a major regional power, through all-Japan efforts. In addition, State Minister Abe congratulated the success of the Pacific Games which was hosted by Samoa recently, and expressed her hope to further enhance people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Samoa through Rugby World Cup and Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.  
  2. In response, Hon. Finance Minister Sili stated that he was pleased to visit Japan and Japan is a major development partner of Samoa. He also stated that the two countries have deepened its relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and conveyed gratitude towards Japanese government’s assistance to various projects including human resource development. 
  3. The both sides confirmed to continue to work together to strengthen Japan-Samoa relationship.
