Message of Condolence by Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko,
following the landslide in Province of Enga, Papua New Guinea
On May 27, 2024, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, conveyed the following message of condolence to Hon. Justin W. TKATCHENKO, BEM, OL, MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, following the landslide on May 24, 2024, in Province of Enga, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.
“I have been shocked by the news that the landslide that struck Province of Enga of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea on May 24, 2024, resulted in the loss of many lives. I convey my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Papua New Guinea.
I am heartbroken to hear that another disaster has occurred soon after the flood last March. May I pray for the wounded to make the swiftest recovery and the people still missing to be searched and rescued as quickly as possible. I renew my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the prompt recovery and reconstruction of the damaged areas.
The Government of Japan stands with Papua New Guinea, our close friend, and ready to provide as much support and cooperation as needed.”
