State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII’s Attendance at the Reception Commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Independence of Papua New Guinea

On September 16, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended a reception held in Tokyo to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Independence of Papua New Guinea, and delivered remarks on behalf of the Government of Japan. The overview is as follows:
- In his address, State Minister HORII expressed his congratulations on the 51st anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence and stated that Papua New Guinea is an important friend to Japan connected by the Pacific Ocean, and an important partner with whom Japan shares fundamental values and principles.
- State Minister HORII also referred to the 11th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 11), to be held in Yokohama in the summer of next year, and stated that, including through the PALM process, Japan intends to further strengthen its relations with PNG and other Pacific Island countries, and to work hand in hand toward peace and prosperity in the region.
