On July 22, on the occasion of the visit of Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape, to Japan to represent the country at the National Day Ceremony of Osaka-Kansai Expo, Mr. FUJII Hisayuki, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the reception hosted by Ambassador of Papua New Guinea to Japan and delivered his remarks on behalf of the Japanese Government. The overview is as follows.

  1. In his remarks, Prime Minister Marape mentioned that as this year marked the 50th anniversary of the independence of Papua New Guinea as well as the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Papua New Guinea and Japan and Japan has been one of the most important partners for Papua New Guinea over a half century, he was committed to further promoting the friendly relations with Japan toward the future.
  2. State Minister Fujii, in his remarks, welcome the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan and also appreciated the cooperation that the two countries have engaged over the years in various areas. He stated that, in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, Japan was determined to work even harder to strengthen the tomodachi (friendly) relationship with Papua New Guinea, involving both the public and private sectors.
