Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary SATO shaking hands with Ambassador-Designate Shearer

On June 24, from 2:10 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. SATO Kei, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from Mr. Andrew Shearer, Ambassador-Designate of Australia to Japan.

  1. At the outset, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary SATO stated that the visit by Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, to Australia in May was a great opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
  2. Building on the five joint documents on economic security and security issued during Prime Minister TAKAICHI's visit to Australia, both sides concurred on further advancing concrete cooperation between the two countries.
  3. Both sides discussed the current challenging situation in the Indo-Pacific region and reaffirmed to further strengthening cooperation between Japan and Australia toward realizing and updating a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
