On September 5, 2025, commencing at 2:35 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is visiting Japan to participate in Japan-Australia Foreign and Defence Ministerial Consultations (“2+2”). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI welcomed his reunion with Foreign Minister Wong, and they concurred on advancing cooperation between Japan and Australia as "Special Strategic Partners."
  2. Both sides confirmed that they will continue to deepen bilateral relations in various fields, with a view to 50th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia.
