On September 5, 2025, commencing at 2:35 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is visiting Japan to participate in Japan-Australia Foreign and Defence Ministerial Consultations (“2+2”). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI welcomed his reunion with Foreign Minister Wong, and they concurred on advancing cooperation between Japan and Australia as "Special Strategic Partners."
- Both sides confirmed that they will continue to deepen bilateral relations in various fields, with a view to 50th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia.
