Japan-Australia Summit Telephone Meeting

On August 8, commencing at 9:30 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone Meeting with the Hon. Anthony Albanese, MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his welcome for the selection of the upgraded Japanese Mogami-class frigate by the Australian government, as their next general purpose frigate. He also stated to continue contributing together to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
- The two leaders exchanged views on various international affairs, including the economy and the Middle East.
- The two leaders concurred that they advance concrete cooperation steadily between the two countries, in light of the 50th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia.
