From September 6 to 12, Mr. OUE Sadamasa, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, visited Australia and French New Caledonia.

1. Australia (Perth, Adelaide, Canberra)

(1) September 7

a. Special Advisor OUE visited the Australian Marine Complex at Henderson and received a briefing. Through the visit, he recognized the importance of bilateral cooperation in the area of defense industry and technologies.

b. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with Hon. Roger COOK, MLA Premier of Western Australia and Minister for Defence Industries, and Hon. Amber-Jade SANDERSON MLA, Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence Industries, and they exchanged views on economic and energy relations between Japan and Western Australia, as well as on coordination in the area of security.

a. Special Advisor OUE visited BAE Systems Australia at Osbourne Naval Shipyard and received a briefing on the construction of the Royal Australian Navy’s Hunter-class frigates Through the visit, he recognized the importance of cooperation in the area of defense equipment and technologies.

b. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with Jim McDowell, Chair of the board, ASC Pty Ltd, and exchanged views on defense industry and technology trends.

a. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with the Hon. Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Defence Industry and Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, and exchanged views on bilateral defense industry cooperation and regional affairs.

b. Special Advisor OUE visited the Canberra Nara Peace Park, and offered flowers and a moment of silent prayer at the memorial for the late Mr. ABE Shinzo, former Prime Minister of Japan, which is located in the park. Also, he visited the Australian War Memorial, laid a wreath, and offered a moment of silent prayer at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier.

c. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with experts from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and Australian National University. They exchanged views on Japan-Australia relations, including foreign and security policy and people-to-people exchanges, as well as on regional affairs.

2. French New Caledonia

(1) September 11

a. Special Advisor OUE visited the Headquarters of the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia, held a meeting with Brigadier General Gabriel SOUBRIER, Commanding General of the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia, and exchanged views on security and defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

b. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with Mr. Jacques BILLANT, High Commissioner of the Republic in New Caledonia, and exchanged views on promoting Japan-France cooperation by using the Consular Office in Nouméa.

c. Special Advisor OUE paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Milakuro TUKUMULI, President of the Government of New Caledonia, and exchanged views on cooperation between Japan and New Caledonia, touching on the 11th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) to be held in Japan in the summer of 2027.

d. Special Advisor OUE held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Véronique ROGER-LACAN, Ambassador of France for the Pacific, and exchanged views on Japan-France cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Special Advisor OUE visited the Japanese Cemetery and the Cenotaph for the Submarine Crews of the former Imperial Japanese Navy in Noumea, and paid tribute to the Japanese nationals who lost their lives in and around New Caledonia.
