Japan-Australia Relations

On May 4, commencing at 3:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. on May 4, Japan time) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Canberra, the Commonwealth Australia, as a Guest of Government, made a courtesy call on H.E. the Hon. Ms. Samantha Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her gratitude towards Governor-General Mostyn`s visit to Japan to attend the National Day Event of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. In addition, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that the bond between our people is the foundation of Japan-Australia relations and would like to promote the people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
  2. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of signing the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia, both sides exchanged views on further developing wide-ranging exchanges between Japan and Australia, including tourism, study abroad, and business.
