Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA shaking hands with Foreign Minister Wong of Australia

On September 5, commencing at 5:20 p.m. local time (4:20 p.m. JST) for approximately 1 hour, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Australia to attend Eleventh Japan-Australia 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Consultations, held Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Working Dinner with Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia in Melbourne, Australia in a relaxed atmosphere. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude to Australia for hosting the 2+2 and her willingness to further develop the-Japan- Australia relationship as a “special strategic partner” that shares fundamental values and strategic interests. Minister Wong welcomed Minister Kamikawa's first visit to Australia since assuming office and expressed her willingness to further strengthen Japan-Australia relationship, taking into account the outcomes of today's “2+2” meeting.
  2. The two ministers also had a candid exchange of views on regional and international affairs, including strengthening ties with the Global South, and concurred that they would continue to work closely together.
  3. Minister Kamikawa also stated that she would like to emphasize the WPS perspective in various areas in light of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UNSCR No. 1325 on WPS next year, while touching on the cases in Ukraine and the Middle East. Minister Wong expressed her support
