Japan-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On April 28, commencing at 4:10 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- The two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Australia will continue to work closely together to further strengthen collaboration between like-minded countries, including on the occasion of the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. Summit Meeting to be held next month.
- The two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Australia, with other like-minded countries, will deepen their coordination in the Pacific Islands region. In this regard, the two Ministers also discussed the security cooperation agreement between China and the Solomon Islands, shared their concerns on the implications it may have on the security of the entire Pacific region and concurred that they would continue to engage with the Solomon Islands in an appropriate manner.
