The 8th Japan-Republic of Korea Counter-Terrorism Consultation

- On May 13, the 8th Japan-Republic of Korea Counter-Terrorism Consultation was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo.
- The Japanese side was represented by H.E. Mr MINAMI Hiroyuki, Ambassador in charge of International Cooperation for Countering Terrorism and International Organized Crime, while the South Korean side was represented by H.E. Mr. HA Wieyoung, Director-General for International Security, Office of Strategy and Intelligence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
- During the consultation, the two sides exchanged views on the international terrorism and organized crime situations. They also confirmed their commitment to further promoting bilateral cooperation to address these issues.
- Both sides also confirmed to continue holding counter-terrorism consultation and to continue cooperating in addressing various security issues, including measures against organized crime.

At the Japan-Republic of Korea summit in March 2002, Prime Minister Koizumi and President Kim Dae-jung (both at the time) agreed to hold “Japan-Republic of Korea Counter-Terrorism Consultation,” and the first round of consultation was held in Seoul in May of that year. The previous 7th round of consultation was held in 2016.
